AT&T's free SMS service allows users to send, reply to, forward, store and retrieve messages from a compatible wireless handset. Customers can send free SMS text of up to 150 characters between phones and send email to SMS using email addresses. This SMS service is available on 4 Nokia digital multi-network phones: 5150i, 6160m, 6162m and 8260. Customers can choose their chat: voice chat or SMS chat.

After the free SMS service promotional period, AT&T Wireless Text Messaging users can continue to use the service for $4.99 a month. Additional SMS messages cost 10 each. Another option offers users up to 250 incoming SMS messages per month at no charge, and 10 each for additional messages sent or received.
